We plan to stay at RCI resort at Residence Mont Calme for a week in October2015.
Like to find out how best to tour around places in Switzerland by rail
We have the understanding we need to take public bus from Haute Nendaz to Sion, then take train to places inSwitzerland.
Like to find out what are the places we are able to go as day trips.
May consider taking our 4 year old grandson with us,will be travelling using Australian passport.
Old Sion is worth your time as a starting point! It has a beautiful medieval city center with two hilltops in the middle topped with a really nice ruined castle on one, and ancient church on the other.
From Sion, you can easily go north to the Rhone Glacier (Ride the Rhone Glacier steam train), northeast to Zermatt to see the Matterhorn, or southwest to Lake Geneva. All of these are easily done by train.
From Haute Nendaz go to Veysonnaz (just around the corner) and you can take the lift up to the top of Mont Fort...one of the most breathtaking gondola rides anywhere with spectacular views from the top and the highest bar in the alps!
If you can get access to a car for a day, drive to Lotschberg, put the car on the car-transport train through the tunnel, and spend a day in Kandersteg, the easternmost point in the Berner-Oberland that is easily reachable from Valais. It's a stunning place and is very easy to get to. It's a great place to take a small child because of the easy walking paths that lead to the Alpine lake at the top of the lift. Highly recommend!
