Hello
I’ll be in Milan and would like to plan a day trip to Locarno. I’m not a savvy European traveler and can use advise on transportation.
I see from Milan central station there’s a direct train to Riazzino. However, I’m uncertain on how to get to Locarno from there.
Is it easy to get a taxi from the train station? And if so, how do get a taxi back? Is there a taxi stand in Locarno or do I use an app?
Thanks
There are trains providing direct service from Milano Centrale to Locarno hourly, at 43 minutes after the hour. You can check the schedule and prices here:
Be sure to change both the date and time to match your travel plans.
Travel time is about 2 hours each way.
Note that SBB's default fare quotations assume the purchaser holds a Half Fare Card, which you presumably will not have. You will pay twice the default fares shown.
Oh perfect. Thank you AcRaven. I don’t know how I missed that.
If you buy a return ticket Milano - Locarno on www.sbb.ch you will actually get an Arcobaleno Day Pass. This allows you unlimited travel for a whole day in the Locarno area, but also in the area between the Swiss border and Locarno. So you can use the same ticket to also visit Lugano and Bellinzona if you so wish. On the Milan - Swiss border part the ticket is good for one outward, and one return journey on the regional trains, and you are free to pick which one you take. So all in all rather flexible.
Thank you Wengen
That’s good to know!
