Day trip from Milan to Lake Como, St Moritz and Berinni Express train

I have seen several day trips out of Milan where we will base for 4 days. We were looking at the Day trip about 13 hours that is a combo of bus and Berinni Express train out of Milan in mid November. . We have a short stop in Varenna on Lake Como then on the Tirano to catch the Berinni Express. We will have about an hour in St Moritz which I saw on the Glacier Express many years ago. I believe November is still off season for St Moritz. Would appreciate any suggestions.

Why not visit Lake Como on your own? This way you’ll be able to take the 30m ferry from Varenna to Bellagio and stroll through this idyllic town. When you’re finished touring Bellagio spend time in Varenna before going back to Milan’s central train station (1h 15m): https://www.trenitalia.com/en.html. This area has the most dramatic scenery on Lake Como and deserves more than an hour’s time.
I’ve never been to St Moritz but I’ve read it’s overrated. You’re talking about a 13-hour day with 8.5 hours of sunlight. Will your trip on the Bernini Express be during the daylight hours only?

That sounds like a long time sitting to me. Either on a bus or a train. I would prefer to be on a train where you could stand up, go to a dining car, or to the restroom.

If St. Moritz is not a must do, you could take the train from Milan to Pontresino, connecting at Tirano, in 4 hrs 33 minutes. Have lunch, then turn around and go back.

Trains leave Milan every hour at xx:20 for Tirano.

Download the SBB app for train info. Plug in your departure point as Milan, then your destination as Pontresino. Look for trains that say “ Direction Tirano”. From Tirano, if you want the panoramic cars, look for the trains that say “PE BEX”. There’s one at 10:06. You could leave Milan at 7:20 and be in Pontresina at 12:25.
