We will have a day in Zurich before taking a cruise. Where can I get a walking tour map of Zurich, I did see on here at the train station but I would not know how to get there.

Your hotel may have maps, but I always use Google Maps on my phone for way-finding these days. Will you have a device and service?

Zurich is a business city, and it's not even in the mountains. Not the most scenic or interesting part of Switzerland.

There is a train station (Zurich Flughafen) in the airport. You can take a train from there to the main train station in Zurich (Zurich Hauptbahnhof, abbreviated as Zurich HBF) in about 15 minutes. Easy.
Assuming your cruise starts in Basel, the train from Zurich HBF to Basel SBB station (bahnhof)is about 1.5 hours. Taxi to boat dock., just make sure you know the right dock.

The current Rick Steves guidebook has a nice walking tour on page 33. I’m like Laurel though. I just plug a sight/destination into the map apps on my phone and let that guide me.
The tourist information office should have good maps. That is located at the main train station.

I bought the guidebook for Paris as our trip is culminating there and we are staying a few extra days. I did not see one specific for Zurich and will only have one day. I do have an iphone but looking for things to see

You might take the Rick Steves Switzerland book out of the library and look at his suggestions for Zurich, including his walking tour. And the kindle version of the book is on sale now for $3.99.
