Czech, Austria, Switzerland Christmas.

Hi all.

So after much chopping and changing, we have come up with the below for a tour, over Christmas, of Czech, Austria and Switzerland.

ADL-PRG

Prague 3 nights
Vienna 3 nights
Hallstatt 1 night
Salzburg 3 nights
Lucerne 2 nights
Lucerne (Villa Honegg - Girlfriend says this is non-negotiable) 2 nights
Interlaken 3 nights
Zurich 3 nights

ZUR-ADL

What people think?

Cheers.

Jonno.

having stayed at most of these ( and presently planning a very similar Xmas trip)
is there a good reason to stay in Zurich for 3 nights?
we have been there before (only in spring) and while very nice, I am not sure I would allocate 3 nights?
I can understand the idea of staying in Lucerne ( we stayed at a hotel on the lake near Horw) and rather than drive our car we caught the local bus into Lucerne. While we found the city very nice, it was not that 'memorable'.
be prepared for the expense of Switzerland.

hope this helps

I make this 20 nights, a long trip!
I agree with the comment about 3 nights in Zürich being too much. Add 1 of the nights to Luzern (and please the girlfriend).

A suggestion:
Salzburg 3 nights
Train to Strasbourg 2 nights (great Christmas market).
Train to Colmar ( 1 night)
Train to Interlaken (2 nights) stop off in Basel en route
Luzern (3 nights)
Train to Zürich airport (only 70 mins from Luzern) and fly home same day.

You say "over Christmas,", note that many Christmas markets shut down on 24th December, and many places are closed over Christmas.

Hi all.

Cool feedback. We would be leaving Adelaide around 13th December and plan on being home about the 4th of Jan. We get 4 weeks annual leave here. So making the best of it.

We'd probably have to have at least one night in Zurich because the flight home leaves at about 8 in the morning.

Might look at that and add a day in Lucerne or look at Strasbourg as well.

Is Hallstatt still a place people like / recommend?

we stayed in hallstatt in spring and it is very beautiful but was very busy with tourists , day trippers
the salt mine there is interesting. not sure about Xmas time. it was good when the day trippers went home. really depends on how difficult it is to fit in and getting there, vs other options that might interest you. there are lots of nice this to see and do in the 'general' area. do a search in the tab at the top of the page.

for example only, there are plenty of interesting things around Salzburg and even a little bit further away in Austria

and the surrounding towns.

hope this helps.
