We are flying from US to Zurich. How much time should we allow to go through customs? Thanks!

Customs will take no time. It's basically a walk through.
However, immigration depends on how many people are waiting to get their passport stamped. No one can tell how long that is going to be. But they're fairly efficient in Zurich.

It would help to know why you are concerned. If going to a Swiss destination, you can take any train any time. In my experience, exclusively in the winter, never more than 10 minutes to get through immigration with a US passport. I am always through and I get to baggage claim before my luggage comes comes out on the carousel.

Frank II is right, the time it takes to clear immigration depends on the season and the number of flights arriving at the same time. Usually, it took no more than 15 minutes. However, there were two times when it took more than 30-45 minutes.
