Covid certificate for tourists, extension of transition period ** new update 24 SEP

Some hopefully good news for everyone. At the BAG (public health dept) press conference today, it was announced that the plan is to set up a national certificate issuing system for tourists which will hopefully make things more efficient for visitors and ease pressure on individual cantons. This is supposed to be operational by 11 October. In order to allow time for everyone to get certificates before travel, the "transition period" where foreign proof of vaccination is accepted will be extended until 24 October. Proposal will be in consultation until 28 September - don't see why it wouldn't be approved though.

We were in Lauterbrunnen and surrounding areas for the previous five days. It took a little explaining to get restaurants to accept my husbands proof of vaccination (I was lucky and got the certificate). Nobody turned us away and it often led to an interesting dicussion either with hotel staff or other travelers. A couple from the US we met the first night was able to get the certificate by going to a large pharmacy in Zurich and showing their proof of vaccination. We tried that yesterday in Lausanne with no luck. We were told visitors had to test every 48 hours in order for the pharmacy to issue the certificate. It has been very helpful to have this information to refer to, hopper18.
