It's 47, similar to the roundtrip/return Wengen–Männlichen price of 46 on the first row of the chart.

Thanks, Laura! I'm just realizing how expensive these rides are going to be. I paid 47 francs for a supersaver ticket to travel from Zurich airport via Lucern to Lauterbrunnen, that seems like a bargain in comparison to the gondola.

Here's a chart of just about all prices in the area:

https://www.jungfrau.ch/fileadmin/Prospekte_und_Broschueren/Jungfraubahnen_Fahrpreise_Preisliste.pdf

So it's 23 CHF for cable car up to Mannlichen, you hike to Kleine Scheidegg, and it's 24 CHF for the train back to Wengen. If you walk further, "around the corner" to Wengernalp, you save 7 CHF because from there it is only 17 CHF back to Wengen. I don't walk further to save money, but because it's a great additional walk next to great mountain views.

Andy, I don't know if you've not been there and are trying to decide if it is worth it. If that's your consideration, I'll say this about buying those tickets: If it's a clear day, YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT--TRUST ME ON THIS! I consider this to be THE best trail in the world. If you want to see pics of this trail and the other great dozen trails in the area, send me a private mail by clicking on my name.

Yes, prices are expensive, but you can reduce those by buying passes like Berner Oberland Pass, Swiss Pass, or half price card.

Right, Andy, it's another example of why so many people trying to plan a budget or compare pass prices need to count not only "regular" train travel days between their overnight stops, but also all the excursions where they might use a pass or half-fare card. And not only the services that passes can cover, but also those that can be discounted. (Unless you just want to take a leap of faith and buy the pass that feels like the best fit.) It can really cut into the beer budget :-) , but this is also among the best of what you're going there to see.

The Mannlichen to Kleine Scheidegg is worth it! The way I view it is your admission price is the lift or train fare.

Oh my. Chiming in with others to say just bite the bullet and do it, especially if the weather is good. The views are amazing!

Thanks, all! We're definitely doing the Ma-Kl hike, because that's the primary reason we're going to the area. Unless the weather is terrible and visibility is very limited for two days in a row.

Besides this hike, I understand another easy hike is from Allmendhubel to Grutschalp via Winteregg (has a cheese factory?). We will also walk from Murren to Gimmelwald. Any others to consider? (the couple that we're going with don't want to do anything strenuous).

Andy,
I've sent you a link to our 12 best hikes in the region, with pics and maps.
Eleven of them I would call "easy", and just the 6 hr hike from Schynige Platte to First would be called "demanding". Just click on your name in the upper right of this page (once you've signed in) to read your private forum mail.

I have taken the Allmendhubel to Grutschalp hike, and it's nice, but the problem is that your back is to the mountains the whole way. I much prefer starting at Grutschalp and walking towards Murren (or Allmendhubel, tho that's more uphill) because you see the mountains the whole way.

The cheese factory at Winteregg is hard to find because there is NO signage. Here's how to find it: starting at the train platform at Winteregg, walk uphill and slightly to the right. There's a wooden chalet-type building with a porch that runs the whole length of the back, next to the trail. If you look in the large windows on that porch and see the cheese vats inside, that's it.

Shoe, thanks for the link! We'll have to see how many of these hikes we can work into our days up there. It sounds like the Allmendhubel to Spielbodenalp M2 hike is the same as the North Face Trail?

Yes, Allmendhubel to Schiltalp to Spielbodenalp to Murren is pretty much the North Face trail, though we often take the narrow road back to Murren (better views), rather than the parallel trail a bit lower down thru the woods.
