Debating between spend my whole 1.5 days at Como vs splitting it between Lugano and Como. Would love to hear some thoughts on this. Lugano seems to have some nice hikes that lead to dramatic views of the lake but cant find much on Como
Are you referring to the towns/cities of Como and Lugano or the lakes of those names?
Go with Lugano. You can even venture off to Bellinzona and tour the castles there. it's nearby lugano and has 54 hiking trails.

Thanks RJean very helpful. acraven, I am referring to the towns, but I assume the lakes are the biggest draw
In case either of you have done both, how does Palm express compare with Bernina Express?
Yeah, I toured both areas last year and there are some great hikes in that area. The Castles of Bellinzona and the San Giorgio Mountain are both UNESCO sites. You will enjoy hiking, great views, and a bit of history as well.
I also loved Bellinzona (wonderful Saturday morning market) but I also love the city of Como. Depending on time and convenience, in Como, you could always take the funicular up to the village of Brunate. I’ve taken hikes up there in the past. Beautiful views of Como, the lake and the alps.
