Commuting Interlaken

What is Interlaken public transportation like? What is the cost and how does it work? Is there a dedicated shuttle route through Unterseen/Interlaken to/from 'Interlaken Ost'? Feel free to divulge your experience on this topic.

We're planning a four day October visit to Interlaken, driving to and staying in town, with the hope of leaving our car parked for the stay and availing ourselves of public transportation when walking is untenable.

Most interesting is the link to the "Interlaken Guest Card"—thank you for posting it!

The website states "After obtaining the guest card online or from your host you can...travel for free on the local public transport." It appears that visitors lodging at Interlaken hotels should expect to receive this pass, as "Each guest paying Visitor’s tax is entitled to a guest card." We're staying in Interlaken via Airbnb; the stay includes the Visitor's tax—perhaps we should expect our Airbnb host to provide us the "Interlaken Guest Card" also.

Additionally, I'm curious if the Top of Europe Pass includes complementary Interlaken public transportation? The website doesn't say either way.

The Top of Europe pass covers what is shown on the map. Train between Interlaken West and Ost, and the rail routes into the mountains, and some of the lifts.
