Cog Wheel/Train Ticket Question

Trip dates: June 2nd- 7th.

We're taking a train from the Zurich airport to Lucerne (will buy a one-way ticket upon arrival)
We're doing Mt. Pilatus, looking at the Golden Round Trip ticket.
We plan on getting a 3-day Swiss Rail Pass
Also taking a train from Lucerne to Montreux. (will buy a one-way ticket)

What train reservations do you recommend making now?
Should we reserve the cogwheel part of Mt. Pilatus now so we will have a reserved time?

Any thoughts appreciated!
Thank you!

Just so you are aware, Chillon castle in Montreux is included in the Swiss Travel Pass, as is the Mt Rigi excursion (boat, cogwheel train). Sorry, I was in the area in January when we did not need advance tickets.

Sorry, are you getting a 3-day Flex Pass or Continuos?

Not a flex, but a regular 3-day. I'll sit down and compare prices between the two and also consider whether we should just buy on an as-needed basis.

The one-way ticket costs 83.80 CHF, so you should be using the STP for that. Note that while you are there, there is construction work that is closing the rail line between Interlaken Ost and Interlaken West. SBB trip planner is showing a replacement bus between Interlaken Ost and Spiez.

If using an STP for the Mt Pilatus trip, the STP only covers the public transport portions, like the boat to Alpnachstad and the bus from Kriens to Luzern. The cogwheel train up and the cable car down are only covered at 50%. Mt Rigi, on the other hand, is fully covered by the STP. Also, the Stanserhorn cable car is fully covered.

Weather is an unknown, so don't make plans until the day before.
Have an incredible trip!
