Clothing Suggestions for 15 day trip early to mid June

If this has been answered, after searching a few of the 38 pages, I have given up and asking.

I am planning a 15 day trip modifying Rick's Two-week trip by train found on page 10 of the guidebook. We are skipping Appenzell and substituting Chur for Pontresina in order to make a quick side trip to Liechtenstein.
My wife and I normally pack in two carry-on bags. We are looking for suggestions on what we might might need like winter coats or can we get by with layering jackets over sweatshirts and cuddle duds. Are gloves needed? Can we get by with tennis shoes or do we need boots, etc. I assume that jeans or acceptable. We are living in Florida and got rid of most winter clothes when we moved south from Minnesota. We just might have to make a trip back to Minnesota to buy the proper clothes for this trip. Ha Ha.

After following weather information from various services for or trip this past May, we managed to pack the wrong clothes. Hopefully we can get this next one right.

Bring a light jacket and if needed, buy a sweater while you're there to layer. That's it, unless you plan to sleep exposed to the elements on the mountain tops.

Thanks!

Does that include trips up Schilthorn and Jungfrau?

Consider packing a light water resistant jacket, a lightweight soft merino wool sweater, and a lightweight merino wool t-shirt. If you're wandering about summits, include a fleece hat and lightweight nylon gloves.

I would suggest adding a zip up fleece. Its cold at the top. i also find these lighter weight fleece jackets to come in handy in evening and are easy to pack/carry.

Hi Keith:

I spent the last two weeks of May and the first few days of June this past year in Switzerland. The weather ran from the 70s at lake lugano, Lake Geneva and Lucerne to a very cold, windy, foggy day at the top of the schilthorn. At the top of MT. Titliss it was clear and probably in the 50s and the valley is was warm one you got walking. We also got rained on a lot in Zermatt and Lusanne. Most of us used the hotel AC in both Lugano and Bern.

I brought a warm zip front sweatshirt, but I tend to run hot. Most other travelers had fleece vests and one other sweatshirt or jacket. Silk turtle necks and some lightweight sweaters. The key is layers. I would suggest a rain jacket or poncho as it rained for several days. But to me none were really cold. Maybe the 50s at the lowest. But I am from San Francisco so cold and foggy is normal to me.

I would wear the clothes which are most comfortable for you. The weather in the lower elevations gets warm during the warmer months, but the higher you go the cooler it gets. The best purchase I have made in the US is a lightweight down coat from LLBean for around $89. It weighs barely anything and it packs into it's own pocket. It ends up the size of a sandwich and can easily fit in a day bag. When you go to the higher elevations, pull it out and it keeps you nice and warm. When you go to lower elevations, pack it back in it's pouch. I would opt for a lightweight, water resistant shoe like La Sportiva. They sell them at REI in the US. You can wear them in all weather and they are very comfortable.
