Chur to Cinque Terre via Bernina Express

My wife and I are taking the Bernina Express as part of our journey from Chur to Monterosso. I am interested in hearing the experiences from others that have taken this same journey. It looks to be a full day leaving Chur at 8:32 and arriving Monterosso at 7:04 pm. We will be staying the previous night in either Wengen or Murren, still haven't picked from those yet. Any thoughts, expreiences would be very helpful!

We did the Bernina Express from Chur to Ticino in December and enjoyed it very much! You are rather lengthening your day by going all the way to the Cinque Terre, but assuming you have checked connections, it can be done. You'll need to confirm with your lodging that a late arrival is no problem.

My worry is that you say you "will be staying the previous night in either Wengen or Murren." Wengen or Muerren to Chur is not a short trip. To make an 8:32 departure you will likely need to sleep in Chur.

rc,

As Laurel mentioned, you'll have to sleep in Chur the night prior to the trip in order to make a departure at 08:32 with the Panoramic cars. There is absolutely NO way to travel from Wengen or Mürren and be in Chur by 08:32. That's about a 4.5 hour trip, with (for example) the earliest departure from Mürren being at 06:06. That would be a brutally LONG travel day!

The 08:32 Bernina Express arrives in Tirano at 12:45, which means you should be able to connect with a departure from Tirano to Milano at 13:08 and subsequently to Monterosso, arriving 19:04. It will be a long travel day even from Chur (10H:32M), but it's certainly possible.

Thanks as always for the reply's. We are indeed staying the night prior to departure in Chur. We will be coming to Chur from Wengen,my post was kind of misleading. I find this board to be very helpful and full of great advice!

That clears up the confusion. Do you need a hotel recommendation for Chur?

As someone else mentioned, the easiest trip will be one of the direct Intercity trains that run direct from Milano Centrale to Monterosso. It's relatively fast and there are no changes which is nice. Do you need any information on how to reach your hotel in Monterosso?
