Chur, Switzerland

What have you enjoyed in Chur? Have you ventured from there to other villages by train? We will be arriving there on the Bernina Express in June. This is the end of our 4 week trip which will include France and Italy. We fly out of Zurich. I am trying to decide if we might enjoy spending 3 nights in Chur.

Thanks

We spent three nights in Pontressina , instead of Chur, and really enjoyed the area. Pontressina is about 5'000 ft elevation, and just a short ride from Chur. ( I've never been in Chur.)
Your trip sounds enviable.
Safe travels!

If you are on the Bernina Express, you will have to pay the seat reservation fee twice unless you opt for one of the regular regional trains that operate between Tirano and Chur. Pontresina is about halfway between the two.

Chur has a few interesting excursions, like to Arosa, or Disentis/Muster. There is also a mountain lift station in the middle of town up to a local mountain top. Chur is not a "tourist" town, so likely low key. It is the cantonal capital. Might be worth discovering

Chur is a somewhat sleepy town. In spite of being quite important historically (the Chur archbishop ruled a very large territory in middle ages, and is still one of the very few Catholic bishops elected by the cathedral chapter), it does not have much sights. The town is nice but not much more. Cannot tell about Arosa, but Disentis (about 1 hour away) has a nice baroque abbey. A way to spend a day would be a trip to Maienfeld, quite close by train from Chur, where there is the Heididorf, a reconstructed traditional Swiss village according to the Heidi story.
I have been in Feldkirch, Austria, but easily accessible by trains, only shortly but looks very nice - better than Vaduz.

There are some Roman leftovers there, but not enough for three nights
