Hello, I am going to Italy in July and will be taking the Bernina Express from Tirano into Switzerland. I am not sure whether I should go on to Chur or stop at St. Moritz. We will be staying in one of these places for 2 nights. Which one do you recommend and why? Thank you~ Maria
Pontressina is also an option- a charming mountain town, about 6000 ft elevation. St Moritz town is in the valley and is full of high end stores ( need a Rolex?) that can be found in most glitzy cities. I haven't stayed in Chur, but from what I've read, it's a great alternative to St Moritz.
Enjoy the incredible scenery along the Bernina Express route. You can also use the regional trains that run on the same tracks, and have more schedule options.
Have a great trip!
We stayed in Chur. It's a lovely little Swiss town. There's about a days worth of things to do. We took a walking tour that took us through the old town to churches and up to a vineyard. I can't remember where it came from. Perhaps a TI?
We were pleasantly suprised by our overnight stay in Chur on Bernina Ex. This could be more than just a stop! Lovely village for walks in around vineyard hills. Quiet, authentic, non touristy. Have not been to St Moritz but picture it very contrasting to Chur.
Another vote for Pontresina!
Especially if you like to hike. The trails near that leave from there are spectacular
