Hi all,
If you had to choose either Lucern, Bern or Geneva, what would you choose? I'm already planning to take a day in Zurich (near airport), Basel (my base), and two days in Murren/Berner Oberland region. I'm staying in Basel for the whole week and will be taking a day trip to either of the three cities. Please share your thoughts and recommendations.
And if I'm only going to be in Zurich, Basel, Berner Oberland and another city, is it worth to get a travel pass?
Thank so much!
Skip Geneva, it is too far to travel to from Basel and there seemed to be nothing to see there compared to Luzern and Bern.
I have visited Basel, Bern, Geneva, Luzern, Montreaux and Berner Oberland. My least favorite city by far was Geneva. Unless you are interested in visiting CERN, which is wonderful if you are into physics, I'd skip Geneva. Luzern is fairly close to Basel and my favorite city in Switzerland, so far. Bern was interesting and is a lovely city, but Luzern just has everything! Huge lake, mountains, river, charming bridges and old town. You can hike, sight see or visit museums. I stayed there three days and can't wait to go back!
Hi! My wife and I visited Switzerland last July and fell in love with Bern, where we were staying. It has a ton of dining options, the beautiful river flowing around town, and very historic buildings, streets, and architecture. I found Lucerne too crowded and touristy, and I didn't really enjoy Geneva when I visited there.
Luzern. Bern is a nice city, but not in the mountains. Luzern is much more scenic and what you think of when you think of Switzerland.
THANK YOU ALL for the Super helpful responses.
