Hello,
I'll be travelling from Chiasso to Zurich this summer by train using a Swiss Travel Pass. I noticed that the route goes through the new Gotthard Base Tunnel. I'm planning on taking the EC 20 train. Lately, I think I've been noticing on the coverage maps that the train in this section has a 50% reduction instead of being completely covered by the travel pass. I'm interested to know if anyone has any insight into this. I was hoping that the entire route would be covered. If there is a fee, how does one go about paying that prior to the trip? Any help is appreciated, thank you.
I think you are mistaking the dashed line, which indicates a tunnel, in this case the Gotthard Base Tunnel, with the dotted line, which indicates a private railway that only gives a 50% reduction, such as the Gornergratbahn in Zermatt. No worries, the EC 20 is fully covered by the Swiss Travel Pass between Chiasso and Zurich.
Thank goodness. Thank you. That makes perfect sense now.
