Does anyone have a suggestion on whether to walk the promenade from Chateau de Chillon to Montreux or the promenade at Vevey? We are taking a day trip from Bern and have a really tight schedule so we are trying to figure out which is the best place to see the promenade.
I live along the lake on the way to Chateau Chillon. A promenade (walk) along the lake is beautiful in both Montreux and Vevey, but different. Vevey is a bit more charming with the old city and cobblestone streets, Montreux is beautiful, a bit more resort like. If you are wanting to save time and are planning a trip to Chateau Chillon, follow the footpath from the Marche in Montreux to Chateau Chillon which takes about 20 min one way. If you decide to go to Vevey, take the time to walk to the port of La Tour de Peilz (left at the Marche) to the chateau, about 20 min. Walk the jetty and look back, quite beautiful.
I much preferred walking along the lake promenade in Montreux to the one in Vevey. It's also closer to the Chateau de Chillon (I took the bus between Montreux and the Chateau both ways, but you could walk one way if you have time).
Thank you both for the suggestions!
