Traveling from Chamonix to Zermatt in August, and we have decided that a Swiss Travel pass is the best choice economically for us, given the amount of time and number of trains we'll be taking in Switzerland during the rest of our travels. For the journey from Chamonix to Zermatt, does anyone know how to add the section from Chamonix to the Swiss boarder to our paid fare? Can we purchase at the station, or would we be able to purchase from the conductor as they check passes?
The STP is valid from Vallorcine, which is the station where you will transfer from a French train to a Swiss train. And the ticket for that train you can easily just get at the station in Chamonix. There are no advance purchase discounts.
Then once in Switzerland you just take whichever train you fancy, and show your passes when requested.
Don't worry about the short transfer the timetable will suggest in Vallorcine. It is just crossing the platform from one side to another, and the trains wait for each other.
This is all great news. Feeling much better about this section of the journey. Thank you very much!
