Chamonix to Geneva in August - what's 'not to be missed' before flying back tk the USA?

We are debating what to do after the 'Alps My Way' tour ends in Chamonix on August 19th.
Possiblities:
(1) tour the Alsace area after the tour ends in Chamonix, and fly home from Dijon or Nancy, (we've already been to Lyon & areas south in France)
(2) spend a few more days in Switzerland, touring cities along the shores of Lake Geneva by train or boat) or
(3) spend the night in Geneva & fly home after 20 days of touring.

Hotel, restaurants, and "must see & do" suggestions are much apapreciated!
Thank You!

Nancy is my favorite French city after Paris, but close behind. It is a smaller version of Paris, but more low key. I spend 10 days in one fell swoop there. And the amount of Art Nouveau architecture, glass, etc. is wonderful. That being said I've only heard about Geneva and I don't have a huge interest in Switzerland. Nice to have to make choice! Wray

Next time I'm in Switzerland I am going to Geneva to take a tour of the CERN facility. If you're not a science geek, don't bother.

Old town Geneva is great! The excavations under the cathedral are amazing - down to the 1st century - and the antiquarian shops on the pretty winding streets are well worth some time.
Like the previous poster said, CERN is also a worthy destination! We took the tour a few years ago and were completely wowed by it. If you can get in, it's unique.

We just got back from a trip last month and absolutely loved Geneva and the surrounding lake towns. I can understand if you are tired of touring and want to head home, but if you can fit in a few days it is well worth it. The Old Town and areas on the Quais are magnificent to walk around. We are watch junkies so the Patek Phillipe museum and the private collection at Vacheron Constantin were impressive. Ate all of our meals in Carouge which is a neat little area--I recommend I'artichaut and Le Dix Vins. We also spent several days in Lausanne at the Angleterre right on the Ouchy. Beautiful walks on the lake. Take the boat to St. Sapohorin and walk the wine trail back to Rivaz to the Vinorama to taste the wine and enjoy the view. Also don't miss the walk from the Montreux lakeside to the Chateau.
