We will be staying in Montreux and are trying to map out a day on the lake visiting several towns. It is very difficult using CGN ‘s website to piece together an itinerary. We would like to start at Chillon Castle and take in towns like Yvoire, Cully, Vevey and possibly Lausanne - returning to Montreux. Any help or suggestions on pulling this together would be greatly appreciated. Thx, Jim S., Chicago
No just go to one and do the rest by train. The boat takes too much time between stops waiting for the next boat and it was not scenic, not a great as Lake Luzern and Lake Brienz.

You could use the train between some of these places if you don't want to wait for the boat or time it correctly, but note that if you use the train in Lausanne you'll have to also use the subway to get up the giant hill from the lake to the train station, so if you want to combine the 2 options, then I'd probably boat from Chateau de Chillon to Lausanne, explore until a boat comes for Cully, boat there and then use the train to go to Vevey and Montreux if the boat schedules don't line up to continue along with the boat. Doing the train from Lausanne is annoying in my opinion.
In regards to Yvoire, you need to train from Montreux to Nyon and then get the boat over to Yvoire. That's a separate day trip from Chateau de Chillon/Lausane/Cully/Vevey.
And I completely disagree that Lake Geneva isn't scenic. It's not the same experience as Lake Brienz or Thun because it's waaaaay larger, but it's certainly scenic.
We did Chillon to Vevey last week by boat. It did take over an hour, but it WAS scenic despite what was said above. I would post pics if I could. It was amazing weather and worth the time it took. But I do agree that you should use the train between some of the other stops. The boat doesn't come very frequently and when it does, it might not be the route you need. But definitely use it at least once! And don't forget to get your 20% off with your Montreux Riviera Card! And the other perk of using train/bus is it's included in the travel card.
