CDC issues "Do Not Travel" Advisory to Switzerland

I'm not sure if anyone saw this yet, but the CDC has issued a level 4 "Do Not Travel" advisory and warning to Switzerland.

My understanding is that you can still travel, but it is just highly advised against. Here's the full article:
https://thepointsguy.com/news/cdc-issue-7-new-covid-19-travel-warnings/

And the CDC website:

I will be on that plane next week so long as Switzerland still allows! And it sounds like currently they will :-)

Happy travels to everyone!
Safe travels, too!

Level 4 will be just like traveling to Texas, Florida, and other states that have high covid numbers right now. I leave in 29 days and not concerned about the Level 4 status in the least.

@mbeaulieu726 I'm right there too! We're staying in Airbnb's where I have the whole house to ourselves, renting a car, and pretty much just hiking. Really the only time we'll be around people is at the grocery store (and airport)

I'm ready to go!

Agree with others to have some perspective on level 4. Switzerland should be no different if not better than most of the US right now in terms of safety. That is some comfort, right? My concern as I leave next week is whether the attitudes of the locals will sour on tourists if their cases continue to climb.

The attitude of the locals will not change. Do you look at anyone visiting the U.S. as the cause of us being at Level 4? I don't because they are not. It's the locals who refuse to be vaccinated, or mask, or do anything to prevent the spread of the virus.

I was looking at that the other day when the EU put out that recommendation on the US. Most of it is right there with the US as far as "level" alert... that was my glimmer of hope that Switzerland would remain open!

My understanding is that if a country is listed at Level 4 by the State Department, travel insurance becomes null and void to cover any pandemic related expenses.

Really happy to actually BE in Switzerland now. People behave better than many in the US. Sure, there are some people too important to mask up, noses slipping out, and so on, but we are in the open air most of the time, staying in an apartment, only eating in places with spaced outdoor tables, and so on. As a fully vaxxed person who is careful about wearing a decent mask and maintaining good hygiene I am no worse off than at home and certainly having more fun than I have in a long long time.

I am not sure I’d feel the same in a large city.

Great to hear Laurel! We head that way on 9/16……so what documents were you asked for as you traveled?

Jane, I'm here now and the locals seem very happy to have Travelers here. It is very relaxed and not crowded . The businesses are following the rules, with partitions between tables if inside, reservations encouraged for meals, and buffet breakfasts with timed seatings. Masks are worn on public transportations .
Don't know who you're flying with, but BA partner American Airline staff were confused by the Swiss tracker form, and it took a full 15 minutes for all the info to be entered at check-in. (CDC card, Covid test, and tracker form.) However, long story, but our flight was canceled, we eventually were re-routed on Swiss, and the check in was quick and easy. Swiss Passport control line was all of 11 minutes, and they just wanted to see the tracker form. No businesses here have asked for anything . We are being treated very well and are having a wonderful time! Good luck!

Jane,
We entered via train from Germany so mo one checked anything so far. We had to check in with a contact tracing app twice in Valais but not so far in the Berner Oberland. We are in an apartment so no contact with hotel staff, etc.

I am wondering if my Swiss-issued EU COVID QR code will be accepted in Italy as a so-called “green card.” It should ne from what I understand.
