Can I get by with just the BO pass with the following itinerary?

Hi, My family of 5 is coming to Wengen for 6 nights. We plan to hire a car from the Zurich airport to take us to Lauterbrunnen and then similarly get a car from Lauterbrunnen to Basel and then TGV to Paris. We will be in Wengen the entire time. Will the BO pass be the only one we will need or do we need the Swiss half fare as well? The car service seems to be a similar cost as 4 adult Swiss train passes given that only 1 child would be free.
Appreciate any suggestions and appreciate any car service suggestions too.
Thanks,
Megan

You shouldn't compare the car service with Swiss Travel Pass, as you plan to get the BO pass. So the only additional tickets you would need would be Zurich Airport to Bern or Luzern (depending on which route you take to the BO) and then from Bern to Basel. The BO pass covers from Interlaken till Luzern and Bern.

And the Bern - Basel ticket will be further discounted if you buy it together with the TGV ticket.

Megan, I'm literally doing the exact trip in September...Zurich to Wengen, Wengen to Paris. Can I ask what car service you're using for the Zurich to Lauterbrunnen and then Lauterbrunnen to Basel? I too seem to think the only pass that makes financial sense is the BO.

Why not train to Lauterbrunnen and to Basel? Is it because there are 5 of you (only two of us)?

I think my question really should have been the following: in the setting of a car service from Zurich to Wengen, and then remaining in Wengen area the entire time, what other pass, if any, should we get? Maybe BO or Jungfrau? Both? I think we will primarily be hiking from Murren, Wengen and maybe Grindelwald.
I haven't booked the car service yet but Daytrippers was one I had looked at for cost.

Thanks

megan,

It's not clear from your post on why you're using a car service for your travels in Switzerland. Have you also compared the cost of the car with (for example) a Half Fare card and P-P tickets? I've found that working out the best transportation options in Switzerland can be challenging at times but it's worth the effort to find the best solution for each trip. I had to format a spreadsheet one year to figure out the best option for the combination of trips I'd be taking in the Berner Oberland.

As you may be aware, the car will only be able to take you as far as Lauterbrunnen, and you'll have to transfer to the Wengernalp Bahn for the trip up the hill to Wengen. That's the only option as Wengen is a car-free town.

You do not need the half fare card. To know which pass is better for you, take a look at what mountains you want to go up (not villages you want to see), and compare the BO and Jungfrau passes for these exact mountains.

The HFC only saves you money if you are doing some other travel by public transport, and you have said you don’t want to do that.

You do not have to purchase a pass beforehand, you can also wait until you are here and then decide - even just purchasing a regular priced ticket from Lauterbrunnen to Wengen on your arrival day . It costs 7.20 CHF.
