Hello! After 4 days in Varenna we’ll train to Tirano, have lunch and buy our passes. Is there any reason we should buy our Swiss Travel Passes in advance rather than getting them in the Swiss station? (I prefer paper copies in the event my phone goes south). Thanks.
Apologies but I couldn’t help but wondering why you would need motor oil upon arrival.
Abbreviations these days can be confusing. :-)
If you buy in advance, in addition to the Pass being on your phone, you can print out multiple copies. So, if you lose one, you’ll have backups. If you buy the Pass at the train station and lose it, you are out of luck. They will not replace it for you.
Maybe there will be another 25% off sale on the STP??!!
Pat, …it would be great if the Swiss Travel Pass will go on sale. We still haven’t bought ours for this fall.
I wouldn’t hold out too much hope for a sale on the Pass this year, as they did lower the prices for 2022. But, you never know. 😊
Well, you’ve come through again Carrie. I’ll buy them in advance. I do think I’ll wait a couple of weeks just in case there’s a sale. However, since they already lowered the rate for 2022 I doubt they’ll have a sale… but one can hope. 😄. I’m loving the SBB app; once I got the hang of it it’s a piece of cake to work with.
The sale was previously unheard-of; I really would treat it as a one-time event during a difficult period for tourism.
Good news if I am proven wrong, though ;)
I’d also suggest making a couple copies of your passport—the photo page. Depending on what train you are on, some conductors will ask to see your passport with the Swiss Travel Pass. I found it easiest to keep the copies of the Pass and my passport on the table as there was no way to predict if and when the conductor would come by. I wanted to have everything out and ready so no one was waiting on me.
Just note that if you are ever asked by the police for your passport, you will want to show the actual passport and not a copy. We found this out when we took a day trip to Germany and the police can through the train doing random passport checks.
