My wife and I want to do the trip to Mt Rigi from Lucerne through Trip Advisor. Perhaps we should buy tickets when in Lucerne in order to check weather conditions but I don't know if these are available to buy there or do we risk having them being sold out in June?

Don't know why you'd pre-buy anything. Just hop on the boat that loops around the lake, hop off at Vitznau, walk 50 feet, buy tickets to the cog railway. I assume they wouldn't sell out in June, maybe I'm wrong? As you say, check the webcams each morning.

Tickets are for a route, not a particular service. They do not sell out. In fact, the best option is probably going to be a day pass anyway. Do not book this through Trip Advisor. Just go to the station or the boat landing dock in Luzern, tell the ticket clerk what you would like to do, and buy your ticket.

Don't do a Trip Advisor trip to Rigi, just buy your tickets through SBB and go on your own when you want to go. It will be cheaper that way and more enjoyable to be on your own schedule. The tickets don't sell out, so wait until you know the weather and buy right before departing. I'd suggest taking the boat to Vitznau and cog train up to Rigi.

Check the weather for the day, and purchase your tickets at the station. No need to go through TA or to buy in advance.
