I am trying to purchase train tickets from Zurich to Zermatt on line. Apparently there is track work going on between Visp and Tasch and I am getting an error when attempting to purchase the tickets. I tried to find bus transportation from Visp to Zermatt on Oct 19 and from Zermatt to Visp on Oct 22 and finding that difficult. It appears that there are not trains for that route every day? Any suggestions?
Wait a couple of days till SBB has fixed this bug in their booking system. Or just buy a saver day pass for that day, as that is going to be cheapest anyway:

October is a long time away. It is indeed planned to so some more maintenance on the line in the off season, so you will travel on a bus in stead of a train, but the ticketing system has a bug that results in it currently not being possible to sell tickets on line.
I guess it is a problem with the booking system. I have bought tickets from Geneva and Zürich to Zermatt many times when it has been a bus connection from Visp to Täsch. So check again in a couple of days. But when you are going to Zermatt be aware that there are two connecting buses from Visp to Täsch. One bus is a direct connection from Visp to Täsch and the other one will make a stop in all small places on the way up to Täsch. So make sure you take the direct bus. Anyhow, enjoy Zermatt, it is just so lovely!!
I think it would make more sense to look at train service from Visp to Zermatt as the train goes frequently throughout the day. When we were there a couple of weeks ago, they were stating that the portion that required bus transport for storm damage repair, Visp to Tausch would be completed by 8/26.
When going from the Airport to Zermatt the best ticket to get is anyway almost always the Saver Day Pass. That is valid on all public transport, so you do not have to worry about wether the system is currently able to deal with the rail replacement bus...
The Saver Day Pass only gets more expensive as the travel date comes close, so you best buy that as soon as you have your plane ticket....
I really agree with WengenK, the Saver Day Pass is a very good choice. But sometimes the Supersaver ticket is a bit cheaper. But the Supersaver ticket is just valid for a fixed departure time and as we know the flights can be delayed and then you lose you ticket. But it could be a good choice on your way back to the airport. I guess you know what time you want to go to the airport on your way home.
