Building itin for Swiss (x reference w/Belgium forum)

Hello.
We are flying overnight US into Brussels with business class seats, hoping to get some shut eye. We had no intention of going there when we began to plan but it was the only direct option we could get. We've never been there but even though it's not part of our itinerary, we should spend a day or two seeing something given the train system is so good. After 2 days in Belgium, we want to hit 4-5 locations in Switzerland. We must include Bern so my youngest daughter could float down the Aare. This is her "family must do together" item.

My questions are:
1. Is it worth it to dedicate 2 days to Belgium, or just one night to see something close by in Brussels and move on? If you suggest two days, what would you do and how would you travel there?
2. Given the train system is so good, and with a family of 5, do you think it's best to get a rail package or singular tickets and travel via train or go back and forth to the smaller airlines and travel that way?
3. Once in Switzerland, we could include Bern, Zurich, Interlaken and Lucern, Lauterbrunnen or Grindewald to get to the top of Europe! We are fine with doing 1 or two things only in each town and moving on, so thinking a car is best. If somebody thinks we are missing something, please lmk? And if you have an ideal itinerary that's great although I'm currently reading quite a few. We have 7 days, approximately for Switzerland. We have never been to Switzerland and I've been reading about the golden route and all it seems to do is expand where I would like to go and see.

After, we will travel for a week on the Amalfi coast and Capri to celebrate husband's 50th. The Italy portion is fairly complete and fly out of Naples back to the US.

Thank you!

Once you land in Brussels take the train to Brugges single roundtrip tickets. Stay 2 nights and then fly to Zurich or Geneva.
From Geneva you can take the train to Bern spend 2 nights then take the train to Lauterbrunnen stay 4 nights and day trip to the mountains from there. Then take the train to Luzern 1 night and then train to Zurich to fly to Naples on your way to Amalfi Coast area

Hi,
Here is how I would answer to your questions:
1. Yes, 1-2 nights in Bruges or Ghent are worth it. Easily reached by train from the airport in Brussels.
More interesting than Brussels itself, although you can spend an enjoable day in Brussels itself too, if you want to limit travels.
2. Fly from Brussels to Switzerland (Zürich), train takes a full day. In Switzerland, children 15 or younger will travel free with the adults if those adults have a Family Card (free) AND a valid transportation pass/ticket. The easiest would be to buy 8-day Swiss Travel Passes for the adults.
For Switzerland to Italy, it depends on itinerary. Berner Oberland to Milan is easy (direct trains from Spiez to Milan), to Florence is fine, beyond is long.
3. Skip Zürich beyond travel needs. Also, top of Europe is crowded and expensive; Schilthorn or Mann lichen are better experiences. As for Bern, floating in the Aare can be very dangerous. Strong swimmers only, and sometimes it's forbidden regardless. There is quite a lot of current!
Timewise, I would spend 2 nights in Luzern, 1 in Bern, 4 in the Berner Oberland e.g. Lauterbrunnen (since you list Bern as a must).
I find the Golden Pass railway that you mention to be underwhelming, except for the last bit as you descend on Lake Geneva. It's a great way to go towards Lake Geneva, or perhaps Zermatt, but I wouldn't do it as a standalone day trip.
