How much time should I budget getting to and from Mt. Pilatus from Lucerne, while enjoying some photographing, light hiking and tobogganing along the way. If I take the early train to Alpnachstad, can I do all the above in a leisurely manner and be back in Lucerne by 5 p.m.?
How about Mt. Rigi? I don't need to be back by any particular time, but would like to know how much time to budget.

For a trip to Pilatus, you should be able to be back in Lucerne by 17:00 if you get an early start, but of course that will depend on how long your spend with "photographing, light hiking and tobogganing". It will also depend on how much time you spend on Pilatus. If you want to have lunch as well as hike up to some of the vantage points above the hotels, that's all going to take time. One point to keep in mind is that there can sometimes be a queue for the Pilatus Funicular so it won't be a matter of simply walking off the boat and directly onto a waiting Funicular.
