Brunnen and Lucerne

I'm 56 and traveling with my 23 year old daughter and boyfriend from Freiburg into Switzerland then on to Milan in early December.
We decided to take a 8 or 9:00 train from Freiburg to Brunnen, because that town is where my daughters boyfriend's family came from. We just plan to stay in Brunnen a couple hours maybe (so he can say he was there and take some pics) and then will take a train to Lucerne where will spend the night. We'll have some sight seeing time the next morning before catching a train to Milan later in the afternoon. (Or that's our plan at the moment. I did find a hotel in Lucerne that was reasonably priced.) Not sure what to expect in Brunnen, and would love advice on what should be our priorities for our short time in Lucerne. Any advice is appreciated.

Rick lays out a good walk in Lucerne (you did check, right?) It's a loop that follows the river and starts and stops at the train station, includes the famous covered wooden bridge and other cool buildings.

Rick's self-guided Lucerne walk is part of that chapter in the Switzerland book, starting from page 78. It's not online and not recorded as an audio tour. The Tourist Office also offers a two-hour morning walking tour that runs daily in high season but only Wednesdays and Saturdays in winter.

It's very simple, you exit the train station towards the lake and turn left to follow the river. You'll see the famous bridge so you'll know you're going in the right direction.
