We will have been coming by train from Bra near Torino to (possibly) Brig for 2 nights on the way to Freiburg, Germany. On paper it looks to be situated quite well for daytrips to Zermatt or Montreux via public trans on our one full free day. And there's a direct train to Freiburg when we depart. We are looking to stay at the Hotel Victoria--adjacent to the train station--or Hotel Europe down the street, both reasonably priced. We won't have snow boots with us (but sturdy shoes) so would prefer close proximity to the station.
Does Brig fill the bill for us? Is the area around the station 'Alpine-y' enough? Good restaurants, etc.? Had also been considering Bellinzona as a stop-off before Freiburg, but seems that Brig has better access for daytrips I think.
