brienz-rothorn-bahn open air train

Has anyone taken the brienz-rothorn-bahn open air train? We are a family traveling and thinking this could provide great views but not sure it is worth the time commitment. From what I gather, we will ride to the top hang out for a bit and then catch the train down. Is this correct?

Thank you for your feedback

There are several YouTube videos that you can see for yourself. Sylvia Michel provided a lot of details on one of her videos.

Yes, it does have lovely views and yes there is a viewing platform/restaurant at the top. Whether it's worth it depends on the rest of your itinerary, how much time you have, what else you're seeing and what time of year you'll be there.

If you have a Berner Oberland Regional Pass, it is free, so just a matter if you want to spend the time and if the weather is nice.

Do note that if you're going during high season (July-August) you will want to pay the 8 chf per person to get a seat reservation or there is little chance you'll get on. The BO pass makes the trip free, but you still have to pay the 8 chf if you want a guaranteed spot. In August, most times sell out completely 3-4 days out. Also even with a seat reservation, get there around 30 minutes before your time as the line fills up fast with people fighting for window seats.
