We are going to Switzerland in September and thinking of going to Brienz and Ballenberg. A friend loved the Open Air Museum there. Has anyone gone there and any recommendations for a hotel? Have you been to this museum site?

I have been to the museum and can recommend it. It is really a fascinating place. I cannot recommend a hotel though, as I live here, but any good hotel in the area would work I guess.

I went to the museum June 2022. I enjoyed it. I arrived when it first opened, so it wasn’t crowded, but some of the activities had not started yet.
I did a day trip from Wengen, which was easy to do via train and bus.

I did a day trip from lauterbrunnen by train and boat. All was covered by my Swiss rail pass. We like Ballenberg.

My wife and I have been to Ballenberg, it was a 9 minute bus ride from the Brienz train/bus station. It was great. Pretty big place, pleasant walking from building to building. From the bus stop, you could throw an egg to the front door of the Hotel Weisses Kreuze which we like very much. Will be there next month in fact. (please don't egg the place).

Thank you for all the help! We are staying in Grindelwald for a week and may just do a day trip from there. Easier than packing up and moving hotels.
