Breakfast in Gimmelwald? Or Stay in Murren

We would like to stay in Gimmelwald but are concerned about where to get breakfast (our accommodation doesn't have breakfast included). Where can we get breakfast in Gimmelwald? Or is it better to stay in Murren for that reason?

As far as I could tell, there are only a few places in Gimmelwald that serve meals to non-guests. So, it's not just breakfast that's a problem, but dinner. I stayed in Mürren, and having seen both Gimmelwald and Mürren, I'd stay in Mürren again. There's a great variety of accommodations and restaurants there, and the place I stayed (Hotel Edelweiss) included breakfast. The views from Mürren are better, too.

Murren is best all around for comfy lodging and all meals with alot of options. I like gimmelwald to hike thru and generally enjoy a nicely perserved local village.

Hi Darren, as others noted, Gimmelwald is a very small town. Murren is a short walk or 1 stop away on the cable car. I stayed at the Hotel Jungfrau in Murren and enjoyed it very much. The hotel has a restaurant that served very good food. There's also a bar. Just down the road is a small grocery store for snacks and/or sandwiches. Have a great trip!

Well, lack of touristy facilities is what RS considers one of the charms of Gimmelwald. I would stay in Mürren, but not because of breakfast options - its where you will go to do just about anything. Gimmelwald is not the remote end-of-earth place that it sounds like in the books. You can see it from Mürren, and go right through it on the cable car to Mürren up from the valley floor..

I'd just stay in Murren. I can second the good report on the Hotel Jungfrau. Murren is a beautiful spot.

darren,

It would help to know which accommodations you're considering that don't provide breakfast? You'll have a better range of lodgings to choose from in Mürren or Lauterbrunnen, many which provide breakfast (possibly at extra charge).

Of course, another option would be to pack in a few picnic supplies from Lauterbrunnen, Muerren, or wherever you are passing a larger grocery.

We hiked through Gimmelwald and found it very charming. Loved buying fresh milk from Erika's hut using the honesty system and eating lunch outside on the beautiful deck of the Mountain Hostel. That said, we really enjoyed staying in Murren at the Eiger Guesthouse and would do it that way again.

Thank you everyone. We decided to move to Murren and got a room at Chalet Fontana (breakfast included).

In Gimmelwald, we were going to stay at Liesi's Heartplace, and if we had stayed there, our option would have been to pack in some food from an Interlaken grocery. But we just thought the conveniences of Murren outweighed the peace and quiet of Murren.

Good choice taking a place with Denise at the Chalet Fontana.

Just for the record, both Muerren (around the corner from Denise) and Lauterbrunnen (across the road from the station adjacent to the cable car) have small Coop grocery stores so no need to bring anything from Interlaken.
