We are in Grindelwald for 6 days in June. Do we need to book tickets for the Jungfrau. It? The site seems to think so. But several forums I have read suggest deciding closer to the day to be sure we have good weather. Even buying one the same day you go. The Jungfrau site says the tickets are refundable up to four days ahead, but we only have a small window to get up there and I wouldn’t want to go on a fogged in day. Thoughts?
The cost above Wengen is about $150 each, so you do need to be assured of good weather. Make sure you have a timed ticket, I believe it's about 5 CHF more. A timed ticket gets you into the reserved lines for the top two transfers. In bad weather, you will see nothing, so you are wise to be cautious. The hotel staff generally know the best weather sites, and we found them to be quite accurate. From what we we told, go in the morning, and you should be able to buy tickets the day before. Good luck!
I've been up there twice and both times I bought a ticket the morning of the excursion. Buying in advance is a gamble on the weather.
buying those tickets and having to decide 4 days in advance is a mugs game. Are you sure you were on the right webpage?
Buy them the day of. Just get up early and if the weather is good for a few hours go up. I've been at the top once where I couldn't see my hand in front of me.
