Birthday in Wengen!

I'm traveling solo to Switzerland for the first time in September. It so happens that I will be in Wengen on my birthday. I'm looking for any suggestions on great places to eat/enjoy wine for a birthday celebration. :) I guess it doesn't necessarily need to be in Wengen, but close by would do too.

Thanks!

Solo, pack a picnic with wine (and a Bluetooth speaker to stream some of your favorite music) maybe someone here can recommend an area in the mountains with a good view. Switzerland to me is all about being outdoors admiring the natural beauty while having a picnic .

Also I stayed at the Hotel Bellevue in Wengen and they have a restaurant on site with great views. Maybe you can have them sing happy birthday and bring some cake.

If you don’t already have these things covered by a pass for the area, here are some things that are free on your birthday - you just need to show some ID

BLS boat on Thunersee or Brienzersee

Schilthorn Cableway

Happy Birthday in advance! I am sure you will have a wonderful time, no matter how you decide to celebrate!

Lucky you! Three recommendations:

  1. I second the idea of Bellevue. Go have a drink on the veranda and admire the over-the-top stunning views (webcam here https://www.webcamgalore.com/webcam/Switzerland/Wengen/21898.html). Mingle with the hotel guests there or in the parlor. Dinner is served promptly at 7:00pm. You can either choose from the half board set menu or order off the ala carte menu. Great variety, all very very good. The restaurant is "semi-private" meaning if you are not a hotel guest you will need to make advance reservations. Judy, +41 33 856 66 55.

  2. Berghaus. Lovely street-side patio with fantastic views, especially as sun going down. Exceptional food. The arctic char and fish from the local lakes is wonderful, extensive other choices too. Not always open, make reservations a couple days in advance. If you're lucky the farmer that lives up the street will be driving his cows by while you're having dinner. Happens often. 3. Eiger, right at the train station. Another lovely patio with beautiful sundown views. Very entertaining to sit there and watch the world go by. Food is amazing, they have a quite varied menu and it's all exceptional. Big differentiator here is the wine list. Stunning. Owner Corrado makes the most excellent recommendations. The whole crew there is delightful. +41 33 855 77 77, info@restaurant-eiger.ch
