Between Berner Oberland and Zürich

We will be in the Berner Oberland region for 6 nights in September (reservation is already made).

We now have to meet family flying in for the second half of the trip in Zürich BUT have three nights between checking out and when they arrive.

Where would you go?

**First time visitors so Berner Oberland will be our first Switzerland Adventure.

Lucerne would be a good place to spend three nights on the way to Zürich.

agree with Kathy. That is more that adequate time for Luzern. You could take a day trip up to a mountain (Rigi, Pilatus of Titlus) and a day trip to Bern.

EDITED TO ADD: Luzern is a very pretty city situated on a river and huge lake and surrounded by mountains. There is a lot to like to Luzern!

Zurich has lots of things to do too. There are several older churches worth visiting. Just walking down the Main Street in town that leads to the lake has all sorts of shops with displays of watches and jewelry of every style and cost you can imagine. I liked to go into the main Bally store, which is about 5 stores tall in the middle of Zurich to look and buy some nice shoes. There is a Heimwerke (hand work) store with all sorts of Swiss type hand made items I used to go to buy gifts in. You do not need a car to get around Zurich.

Check out Thun, it's a pretty town with the Aare river running through it, on Lake Thun. Nice downtown, easy train and a little less expensive than Lucerne. The castle is cool, there's a great hotel right in the castle. Easy day trips to Bern, bus, train or ferry along the lake to St. Beatus Caves or Beatenberg, Nielsen, Lake Brienz and the Brienzer Rothorn. And Thun is an easy train to Zurich, less than 90 minutes.
