My family is traveling to Switzerland for Christmas this year. I am wondering if there is a magical time for us to buy our airfare (meaning at the lowest price) or if we should just go ahead and purchase our tickets now so that we don't have to worry about it. Thank you!
I'd look up what it costs now and know the average. Then you can pick a few ticket agencies like Cheapoair, expedia, ect., and apply an alert for low prices. Once you get a price you think is low enough then book and don't look back. Have a wonderful trip!
Just so happens that I'm going to Lucerne for my daughter's Christmas wedding at the Jesuit Church (Exciting). I just started looking a couple of weeks ago and came across a roundtrip Delta fare from my hometown to Paris for a crazy $414 total roundtrip. So I bought those and just plan to spend a couple of nights in Paris and then hop on the TGV to Zurich and then onto Lucerne. Those travel dates now have airfares $1200-$1400 into Paris.
Lesson: There's no crystal ball. You have to check often, know the usual prices, and be prepared to jump when you see the sale.
