We will be in the Italian Lakes and then plan on starting our tour of Switzerland by train in Lugano. We are trying to figure the best scenic train route for a week beginning in Lugano and ending in
Geneva where we will pick up a car for France. Any sugggestions?
OK, here goes.
Lugano to Luzern NOT on the new Gothard Base Tunnel, but by specifying a stopovers in Airolo and Goeschenen. so you go over the alps and not under them. Then the "Golden Pass" route to Lausanne via Interlaken Ost, Spiez, Zweisimmen, and Montreux.
That should get you to Geneva with plenty of mountain scenery.
