I am trying to figure out the best route from Milan to Murren. I understand this will be a combination of train and cable car. Is the following the best route? Better suggestions?
Milan to Spiez
Spiez to Interlakken Ost
Interlakken Ost to Lauterbrunnen,
In Lauterbrunnen, take cable car up Murren (does this go directly to Murren?)

The cablecar takes you up to Grutschalp. A little train will be waiting there to take you the rest of the way to Mürren. Yes, it is a lot of changes but it all goes smoothly.

You pretty much got it right. When you get to Lauterbrunnen, you actually have 2 ways to go.
At Lauterbrunnen station, take the cable lift (detachable gondola like at ski resorts) up to Gruetschalp, where you get another train to Muerren (about 15 or 20 minute ride).
Outside Lauterbrunnen station, take the bus to Stechelberg. At Stechelberg, take a 2-stage cable car to Muerren.
