We will be in Zurich for 1.75 days in mid-August and would like to engage a private tour guide while there. Any recommendations?

Doesn't Rick have suggestions in his book?
Also, Zurich doesn't strike me as a city where you need a guide. I took Rick's suggestion of walking down one side of the river to the lake and then up the other side and it worked out just fine.

The Tourist Information office in Zurich Hauptbahnhof offers a daily 90 minute walking tour of city highlights.
Look at purchasing the 24 (or 72) hour Zurich card, as it offers a few other amenities (I believe a 60/90 minute round trip cruise on Lake Zurich is also included).

Individual pass is 29 chf for 24hrs, and includes use of city buses, trams, free or reduced museum admission, reductions at certain eateries, and the aforementioned circular boat cruises.
The tour is in English, and I discovered many gems not found on my own!
