Hello all,
I know there is a lot of information on this forum in regard to this area of the Alps … getting there, where to go, how get to each side of the valley, etc. but I am having a very hard time trying to figure out the best, most economical means of getting to the Schilthorn. Perhaps I am missing something or just don't want to come to terms with the actual price but maybe you all can help.
My husband and I are traveling by car with our 3 children (16, 12, 10) from Germany to the Lauterbrunnen Valley on July 10th. We plan to park there and take the cable car to Murren where we will spend one night. The next morning, we hope to go to the Schilthorn. We could do the early morning breakfast package if that is most economical but we could also just have the included breakfast at our hotel. Either way, we hope to go up in the morning. Spend some time hiking, check out of our hotel and head back down the mountain to the Valley. We'd like to go to Trummelbach Falls that afternoon and I need to see if we do that from Murren or the Valley. We will spend that evening in Interlaken to expedite our drive out of Switzerland the following morning. So it's a quick trip to expensive Switzerland (unfortunately) and we were not planning to purchase any passes.
What I'm wondering is if it's best for us to purchase each leg a la carte or buy a package to get us all the way up then back down. I'm wondering if the kid's tickets cost any less? Also note that my oldest is no longer considered a child so we would be purchasing for 3 adults. From Rick's map on pg. 151 of his Switzerland book, it looks like trips to the Schilthorn from Murren cost 47 SF one way.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
