Best of Switzerland pre tour question

Wife and I are on a September tour. We will arrive a day early to adjust etc.
Any sightseeing suggestions for Luzern that will not be duplicated by the tour?
Thanks

Perhaps a trip up one of the mountains—Rigi (a favorite of mine), Pilatus, Titlis, or Stanserhorn. I don’t see any of those on the itinerary.

Pilatus is wonderful….we liked it better than Rigi though the views from the train to Rigi were worth the trip. We had a wonderful time walking the streets of Luzern….eat a nice meal at Hotel Balances on their balcony overlooking the river!

I purchased a “golden ticket” from the hotel’s front desk and did a very interesting Circuit of Mt. Pilatus. You start by taking a bus that you catch about 100 feet from the hotel and it takes you to the gondola station. From here you take the gondola to the top of the mountain. Amazingly scenic! At the summit you can hike, enjoy the view, take a break at the restaurant, etc. Then you take a cog railway down the other side of the mountain to the shores of Lake Luzern. The dock for the lake steamer is right there and you take a cruise back to the dock in front of the Luzern train station which was right across the River from the hotel. The one ticket covered everything and it was an extremely enjoyable trip. I found this an ideal way to see a lot while still getting used to the time change. It had me outside and active while not requiring too much physical exertion if I was tired. You are free to spend as much time as you like.

I love Carol's plan for the Pilatus tour. It would get you out in the daylight to adjust to the time change. Taking a boat part of the way sounds wonderful! We did it the other way around - cogwheel train up to the summit, then gondola down the other side but took buses to and from the departure/arrival points. A boat section of the trip sounds even more fun!

If you find yourself near Chapel Bridge in need of a meal, we really enjoyed Restaurant Pfistern. It is a 500 or so year old restaurant that is in a covered but outdoor area right by the river. I can't say the fondue was world class but it was absolutely serviceable (especially since we had kids with us) and the ambiance and vibe was very fun and we had a memorable and good time (we were also lucky that we were able to eat outside there but covered when there was a sudden summer rain shower).

A great scrapbook from 2019. Check out what they did pre tour. We also are going in September, start date of 9/12.
