Best of Switzerland

If you've taken the Rick Steves Best of Switzerland and had another 4 or 5 nights to add at the end; (sometime between May and late September) where would you go? Would your return to another location within Switzerland; eastern France? What would you do?

If you are looking at 2026, I see they no longer stop in Zermatt, so that is an option. The tour ends in Bern, so that is an easy trip to Basel and Colmar.

I took this tour in 2024, and when looking for ideas for extending my trip, the consensus seemed to be to spend more time in the Berner Oberland. Since the tour stays in Mürren, I chose to stay in Wengen. I was happy with my choice.

This was a great tour, altho the itinerary has changed since we went pre- covid. We fell in love with Switzerland, and have returned twice since.
No one is ever ready to leave the BO. It's so quick and easy to get back there from Bern. I like the idea of staying in Wengen for the second visit, even tho I'm team Murren!
Also, September is a great month to go. Some of the trails and lifts don't open until mid- June.
Have a great trip!

I took the train to Strasbourg after the tour and spent a few days there. Very enjoyable and I'd recommend it if you'd like to visit eastern France.
