Hello, I been reading alot on the hiking trails in Murren and I want to be sure we pick the correct one. I prefer easy-moderate and want to see the cows, the hut where they make cheese and possibly some waterfalls. Is there one route that covers these preferences. Thanks!
The North Face trail - almost meets the bill. From Murren ride the funicular up to Almendhubel to start this trail. Great views, you should see some cows, and I think a cheese making hut. You can take a diversion to the Sprutz waterfall. If you do this I would say it is a moderate hike, without the waterfall - hiking back to Murren it is an easy family friendly hike. If you take the hike all the way to Gimmlewald it can be very hard on your knees as there is a lot of steep downhill. I've done it both ways and it is one of my favorite hikes! This hike is described in the RS Switzerland book.
How long will you be in Mürren? You will probably want to take several walks/hikes, and that way you can do one on the valley floor (best for waterfalls, both the Trümmelbach and the free outdoor ones), one through Gimmelwald (lots of cows - at least in September when I was there), on top of the Allmendhubel (great views of the Jungfrau, the Mönch, and the Eiger), etc.
Don't worry - there is no "incorrect" one. They're all great, just different. And I know it's a bit opaque now, but once you're there it will all be much clearer. If you have a specific goal (like a cheese making hut), ask at your hotel.
