*What is your favorite boat excursion on Lake Lucerne?
*
I don't think I would define this as " best " or " favorite " because there are numerous great choices , but the trip from Luzern to Rigi and return is a winner . Leave from Bahnhof quai on the lake boat ( try to ride on one of the five restored early twentieth century lake steamers . they will get you there in style , not just a ride ) disembark at Vitznau ( about an hour and forty minutes ) and take the cog train ( Vitznau Rigibahn ) to Rigi Kulm ( summit ) . return as you came or you can get off at Rigi Kaltbad and hike some and take the telepherique down to Weggis . I took the train back , but Lola's plan for the cable car is very appealing ( She is another poster here with lots of valuable information . ) Going back on the lake , again , try to coordinate with one of the steamboats . I can't decide which I love more , steam boats or trains !
From one Steven to another Stephen in New York that is my plan for the 2nd week in September. Taking the boat from Lucerne to Rigi....cogwheel up ....hiking....cable car down...boat back to Lucerne. Thanks
I am traveling now and on limited wifi so have to be quick. I cannot add anything to Steven's very evocative post about the Rigi lake boat-train-cablecar-lake boat trip. For photos of the views from Rigi Kaltbad, look at www.rigi.ch and explore.
@ Steve , you are most welcome , take a look at this video , but be sure to turn off the audio , it's some of the most irritating music I've ever heard , but the video says it all ! - http://youtu.be/v2NmRy1wa5s @ Lola , I think I've just been bitten by the Bettmeralp bug !!
Awesome Steven I am getting psyched for the boat ride. I was in Lucerne for 2 days in 1984 (one of those best of Europe in 2 week tours in high school) and remember the river and lake being the greenest blue color. This brings it all back. Thanks!!!!
