Bernini Express - the Albula Line replaced by the Vareina line - still worth it?

Hello all,

We are booked to travel on the Bernini Express between Chur and Tirano in November.

The RHB has just advised that the Albula line will be closed for part of November and the Vareina line used instead.

It seems to be a car carrying line with a very long tunnel.

Is it worth still doing the journey? Looking at the maps it seems at that the Albula line between Chur and St Moritz was the most magical section.

Any advise very gratefully received!

Thank you

That is disappointing, but the line into Italy is over the Bernina Pass and the most scenic part. The Albula line is quite interesting with all the twists an turns and the famous Landwasser Viaduct, which you really don't see very well because you are on it and you go into a tunnel immediately on the far end.

The Bernina Line is the line from St. Moritz to Tirano. That some Bernina Expresses go all the way to Chur is just for convenience. And yes, that is normally on the Albula line.

You however do not take the Bernina Express in order to see the Albula line, as there are plenty of other trains on that route.

Thank you for your responses. We'll soldier on through the 20km tunnel happy to know that the Bernini Line is the icing on the cake!
