Bernina Express or Regular Train

We are travelling from Varenna - Pontresina in September. We are wondering if we should travel the regular trains on that route instead of the Bernina Express. We want to take pictures and have heard that the windows do not roll down on the Bernina Express. Also, are reservations required on the regular trains?

Thanks for your input.

Travel on the normal train. That gives you a lot more options.
There are never reservations required on normal trains in Switzerland. The only people who reserve are big groups (a hiking club reserving a whole carriage. If that happens they put an extra carriage on the train).

Diane,

Your information is correct regarding the windows. The Bernina Express panorama cars have large windows and they're fixed, so taking photos is difficult because of the glare. I ended up standing in the foyer most of the trip, as the window there could be opened.
