We are planning to travel from Varenna to Tirano, pick up the Bernina Express and break our journey in St. Moritz for 2 days. We'd like to continue on the Bernina Express from St. Moritz to Chur and then connect to Zurich. However, I don't see a provision in the timetable for picking up the Bernina Epress in St. Moritz and going north on it. Can anyone help? Thank-you!
You can ride a regular regional train---same tracks, same views, and the schedule is much more accommodating.
If you take the 10:03 Bernina Express, it only goes as far as St Moritz, then you change to a Regional Express to Chur. Same tracks, same scenery, just no panorama cars. At Chur, you change to an Inter City train to Zurich. It is just a 6 minutes change, but it is a cross-platform change.
Edit, I deleted previous part about getting the afternoon Bernina Express in Pontresina. If you take the 14:26 Bernina Express from Tirano to Chur, it bypasses St Moritz by a short cut.
Good information from Sam.
Here is a bit more, which may explain the routing.

The actual "Bernina" line goes between Tirano and St. Moritz. After that the route coincides with the Glacier Express for some distance. This section is called the Albula line.
