Bernina express bus ticket

I already have reservations on the Bernina express bus. We were going to get a Swiss Pass and the later decided to get the 1/2 price pass. So I’m assuming I can purchase the actual bus tickets at the bus station in Tirano before boarding. Correct? Thanks, Rose

You will actually buy the tickets at the Rhaetische Bahn train station in Tirano, The bus will go from there as it is a connecting service of that company as part of the Bernina Express Glacier to Palms excursion.

How are you getting to Tirano? The correct ticket to buy would not be a Tirano - Lugano ticket, but a "wherever it is you are starting your day" to Lugano, via Tirano ticket.

And that ticket you can buy at any place where you can buy tickets. So it does not have to be Tirano. Can be any manned station in Switzerland.

We are.coming from Pontresina on the Bernina Express and traveling to Lugano on the Bernina Express bus. From there we will take the regular train to Luzern. Three nights there then 4 nights in Murren then one in Bern then one in Zurich then on to Paris. Originally I was going to purchase the Swiss Pass and didn’t need tickets but now realize the Half fare pass is a better deal since we are hikers and will be taking the lifts and upper transports in the Berner Oberland. I have reservations for both the Bernina train & bus but now needed tickets. I have the SBB app for train tickets but didn’t see the bus

You do not say your date of travel. On my SBB app, I put in Pontresina to Lugano via Tirano. For May 30, it suggests RE 9 to Tirano departing at 11:04, arriving at Tirano at 13:00, then changing to Bus BP at 14:20, arriving at 17:30.

Problem I am having is it will not sell me a ticket as the bus for that date is fully reserved. But since you already have a reservation, you could buy a through ticket at Pontresina station. A point-to-point ticket with the half fare card is 35.50 CHF 2nd class.

Thanks Sam
So I can buy a combo train-bus ticket at the Pontresina station for all the way to Lugano. Excellent . That’s what I will do. Thank you

We are.coming from Pontresina on the Bernina Express and traveling to
Lugano on the Bernina Express bus. From there we will take the regular
train to Luzern.

In that case you buy a ticket Pontresina - Tirano - Lugano - Luzern.

In Switzerland you never need more than one ticket per trip, regardless of how many different segments are involved. (and this is one of the reasons why tickets and reservations are separate. They each follow a completely different logic).

Probably the best option for you would be to get a Saver Day Pass for that day, as that is often the cheapest option for long trips.

For example: Looking at a date in June I see that a normal ticket Pontresina - Tirano - Lugano - Luzern with HFC would be 61,50. That is what you would pay if you just bought it at the station. But you can buy a Saver Day Pass for 49,-.
