Hello, We are going in July to Italy and then traveling on the Bernina Express to Chur. The hotels in Chur, Switzerland are very pricey, I am open to inexpensive hotel recommendations. Any recommendations for activities while in Chur, we will be there 2 nights. On the Bernina Express, I have read that the front cars on the train are better than the train-cars with the panoramic windows. Opinions and recommendations? Thank you :)
The front cars are not necessarily better. They have the advantate that you do not have to get a reservation, so it saves you some money.
Regarding hotels: Just cast your net a bit wider. There are lots of places you can stay at, and most are well connected with each other.
For a hotel, look at places around Maienfeld (Heidiland) and along that local rail line. It is just a quick hop into Chur.
Swiss hotels are just more expensive than Italian hotels. The Ibis Chur is reasonable, an easy bus ride from the train station. Stay in a pyramid with a McDonalds on the ground floor.
Thank you all for your suggestions!
another vote for the upside down Ibis - wins for weird but in a good way, too
